Wild Umbria is located on what was a small farm nestled in the woods of an unspoiled valley in the foothills of the Central Apennine mountains in the east of Umbria.
Access is down a steep, rough gravel road passable only with care. Our land covers 3.5 hectares of scrub, olives, and woodland in a strip running from the top of our hill down to the stream in the valley bottom, where packs of wolves roam in the wintertime.
Over 30 years ago I stumbled upon this place. I was young and perhaps overly idealistic, looking for a simpler way of living. So began a long and at times difficult process of rebuilding the old stone house and reclaiming its land to some semblance of its former self. Lucia & I have enjoyed sharing this beautiful place with many visitors over the past 7 years.

Don't come to us if you want manicured lawns and illuminated pathways, or if you are afraid of the occasional ant or spider or scorpion. But do come to us if you are looking for a retreat far away from the noise and pollution and confusion of modern life where you can enjoy being naked in nature; if you appreciate silence and simple things but with just a little touch of luxury; if you want to wake up in the morning to just the sound of the birds; if you like to sit out under starry skies and wonder at the flashing of fireflies and the churring of the nightjar, or if you just want to relax with a good book at your private and secluded pool. We are perfectly located for visiting the unmissable mediaeval towns of Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, and more. We are best suited for couples, families, or a small group of friends.

We created Casa Angiolina from a section of the rambling old stone farmhouse. Lucia and I live at the other end of the building, available if you need us, but keeping out of your way if you don't. Casa Angiolina is completely separate from our side of the building, inside and out. It has a private outdoor terrace with lovely views over the valley and the 10th-century castle of Frecco and is equipped with a table and chairs, a fire pit, hammocks, and a shady corner in which to relax away from the heat of the sun. There is no outdoor lighting - only candlelight.
Up a path through the woods in a clearing with spectacular views over the valley is your own beautifully located plunge pool, which is for your exclusive use. It is surrounded by a large wooden deck equipped with comfortable wooden recliners, a hammock, and a shady corner. The perfect place for relaxing and sunbathing. Clothing is most definitely optional.
I rebuilt the old Umbrian farmhouse myself following ecological principles. The stone and structural timbers come directly from our valley. The doors, windows, and some of the furniture are all handmade. Casa Angiolina sleeps up to 6 in a large en-suite double bedroom with an extra-wide king-size mattress, a smaller bedroom with a double bed, and a double sofa bed downstairs in the living room.
There is a fully equipped modern kitchen with a copper worktop and dishwasher. The bathroom has a wide walk-in shower with lashings of solar-heated water.
There is a good and stable internet connection (30 Mbps download, 3 3Mbps upload), which means that we are suitable for remote working.
We use exclusively fragrance-free, low-toxicity cleaning products and wash all our laundry on-site. Perfect for those of us who suffer from chemical sensitivities and in keeping with our low-impact environmental philosophy.
There is a wood-burning stove for cosy spring and autumn evenings.
Pets are welcome.
